China 10 day itinerary solo female traveler

Planning a Beijing-to-Hong-Kong solo route under China’s 240-hour visa-free transit policy and looking for realistic stops along the way.

I'm planning a trip to China using the 240-hour visa-free policy. The plan is to land in Beijing first and depart from Hong Kong. Any recommendations on places to visit along the way?

With ten days, I would keep the route focused rather than trying to see every famous city.

  • Beijing (2–3 nights): Give yourself enough time for the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven or hutongs, plus one Great Wall day trip. Two nights is possible but leaves little room for a long-haul arrival.
  • Choose one inland stop: Xi’an is the most natural rail addition if the Terracotta Army and the City Wall appeal. Chengdu and Chongqing are both worthwhile, but adding all three turns a ten-day trip into hotel changes and station time.
  • Yangshuo (2–3 nights): It is worth slowing down for the karst landscape. Allow enough time for the connection, rather than treating it as an overnight stop.
  • Shenzhen (1–2 nights): It makes a simple final mainland stop before Hong Kong and gives you a low-stress border transition.

Before booking, confirm that your nationality, arrival port, onward ticket and the areas you plan to visit fit the current 240-hour transit rules. The policy is not a blanket permission to travel anywhere in China, so check the route first and then lock in domestic trains and hotels.
