China travel itinerary for elderly parents

Looking for a relaxed, comfortable China itinerary for two travellers in their 60s, without trying to cover too much ground.

My parents are both in their 60s and planning a trip to China for a while. Any good recommendations or tips? The main rule is to keep it relaxed—nothing too rushed.

Keeping the pace slow is a very good starting point. China is huge, and comfort is usually more valuable than trying to collect too many cities.

Yangshuo is a lovely place to give two or three nights if your parents enjoy scenery, riverside walks and a quieter rhythm. Choose accommodation close to the town centre or the river, and keep one day loose for weather or rest.

Suzhou and Hangzhou also work well together. They are connected by frequent high-speed trains, and both reward an unhurried plan: gardens and canals in Suzhou, then West Lake and tea-country scenery around Hangzhou. You could comfortably give this area four to five nights rather than treating it as a quick stop.

For the rest of the route, minimise hotel changes, choose centrally located hotels with lifts, and build in a rest afternoon after every transfer. If you share their arrival and departure cities plus the number of nights, people here can suggest a route that is genuinely comfortable.
