How far ahead should I book major museums and attractions in China?
I am visiting Beijing and Shanghai and do not want every day locked in months early. Which kinds of attractions need advance booking, and how should a foreign visitor handle passport-based reservations?

Reserve the few time-sensitive sites first, then leave ordinary museums and neighbourhoods flexible. Passport details must match exactly when a booking asks for them.

Keep a screenshot of every booking and note the entry gate. Popular attractions can have different ticket systems, so check the official listing close to your visit.
