How much would be enough to visit China for 2 weeks?

Hello,

I am debating visiting China for 14 days in either April, September, late October or November. I have not decided on all the cities, but I would like to visit at least Shanghai, Beijing and Chongqing, plus possibly one or two other cities. Do you think 3,500 to 4,000 CAD would be enough for the trip? Thanks.

This can only give you a rough estimate, not an exact figure. The main issue is that I do not know your entry and exit points, and flight fares can vary quite a lot.

Excluding international arrival-departure flights, here is a ballpark breakdown. Accommodation can be estimated at an average of 300 CNY per night. Hotel prices differ significantly across cities, and this rate is for business-chain hotels. If you want more comfortable, upscale lodging for your whole trip, add another 200 CNY per night.

For a total of 13 nights:

  • Budget level: 3,900 CNY
  • Upscale level: 6,500 CNY

Inter-city transport is estimated at 3,000 CNY. Food and dining comes to 100 CNY per day, totalling 1,300 CNY for the trip. These three quantifiable items add up to roughly 10,000 CNY.

Costs for tourist attractions and souvenir purchases cannot be calculated. That said, 20,000 CNY (approximately 3,000–4,000 USD) is a realistic and reasonable total budget for your trip.
