How to add foreign credit card to Alipay 2026
BiliboyShared Aug 22, 2026I am about to travel to China. I have downloaded Alipay, but I keep running into errors when trying to add my credit card. What should I do? Are there any other alternatives?

Try these quick fixes:
- Turn off your VPN. Alipay can block card setup if it detects one.
- Match your name exactly to your passport. First, middle and last names should match the official ID word for word.
- Call your bank. It may flag Alipay as fraudulent and block the small verification charge. Ask it to allow payments to Alipay / Ant Financial and make sure 3D Secure is on.
- Use a physical card. Virtual cards can fail; try a physical Visa or Mastercard.
- Verify your passport first. Go to Account, Settings, Identity Information and complete eKYC before linking the card.
Alternatives if it still does not work
- WeChat Pay: Download WeChat and link your card under Me, Services, Wallet. It is the best backup.
- Cash (RMB): Withdraw yuan from an airport ATM with your debit card. Legally, vendors must accept cash.
- Alipay Tour Card: Search “Tour Card” inside Alipay. It lets you buy a virtual Chinese bank-card top-up with a foreign card, though it can cost around a 5% fee.
