How would you use two free weeks in Suzhou without turning it into a rushed checklist?
I will be in Suzhou for two weeks for a study program. Most weekdays are busy, but I have afternoons, evenings and weekends free. What is worth doing slowly, and which nearby places are genuinely easy day trips?

For weekends, one nearby city is plenty. High-speed rail makes day trips easy, but a second destination on the same day usually turns into station time.

Give the gardens and canals separate afternoons instead of stacking them. Suzhou is better when you leave room for tea, dinner and wandering.
