How to verify a travel agent in China?
CentricsShared Aug 25, 2026Hi guys, we are travelling to China in a few months and my mom is in touch with someone via WhatsApp about our tours and itinerary. My partner and I are a bit sceptical about whether it is legitimate. How can we tell if it is a trusted company?
They have sent their website, the name of the person organising the trip and some licences. I do not want to post them unless it is allowed, but I can put them in the comments if appropriate. We are probably being paranoid, but they are asking for a down payment and things can be faked so easily. Thank you in advance for any help.

Look up the company on Google and Baidu, and compare the legal name on its licence with the name used for its bank account and contract. A long public trail, consistent reviews and clear business details are better signs than a document image alone. If there is very little independent information, be cautious.
Before paying a deposit, ask for a written itinerary, a cancellation policy, what is included, and a formal receipt or invoice. Pay only to an account in the company’s name rather than an unrelated personal account. Avoid paying the whole trip up front.
A private guide can be a good option, but book through an established platform or agency and keep all arrangements in writing. If something goes seriously wrong while in China, 110 is the police emergency number.
