Is April or mid-May better for Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou?
I am planning Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou, with perhaps one more day trip. Would you choose April or mid-to-late May for a first trip if I care about comfortable walking weather, gardens and fewer crowds?

Choose the dates around your priorities rather than chasing perfect weather. A flexible rain plan matters more in this part of China than a one-week difference on the calendar.

April can feel more spring-like but is less predictable. Mid-May is usually easier for walking, though you should avoid the Labour Day holiday itself.
