During Golden Week, is it smarter to stay in one city or keep moving?
I cannot change my dates and will be in China during a major holiday. Would you base yourself in one city and explore locally, or still take high-speed trains between several destinations? I would rather have a good trip than tick off a long list.

Moving cities is possible, but transport tickets and hotels need more planning. If you do move, keep it to one transfer and travel outside the busiest part of the holiday if possible.

One base city is usually kinder to your energy. Book the major attraction you care about most, then keep the rest of the schedule loose.
