Should I still carry cash for small vendors in China?
I know mobile payment is common, but I am not sure whether a foreign visitor should still carry RMB. How much cash is sensible, and in what situations might it be more useful than a card or app?

Cash is best treated as a backup, not your main plan. Small notes are more convenient, but expect many vendors to prefer a payment app.

Keep cash for a genuine payment failure, rural detour or tip-like emergency rather than assuming every small stall will be cash-first.
