Travel ideas in mid to late September

Hi everyone,

I am planning to travel to China sometime between mid to late September. What are the best times to avoid peak season? I understand that the Mid-Autumn Festival is on 25 September and National Day is on 1 October, so I assume travelling anytime up to and before 24 September would be okay?

I have not narrowed down the places or cities I would like to visit. I have a low tolerance for heat and sweat easily following the side effects of a sympathectomy surgery, so I would ideally prefer somewhere with cooler weather, around the low 20s during daytime, low humidity and lower precipitation around that time of year.

Overall, if you are visiting China around this time, most places can still get occasionally quite hot, though things are starting to cool down. If you really want to avoid the heat, your best bet is Yunnan.

Yunnan is one of China’s top travel destinations with incredible tourism resources, and its temperatures stay pleasantly mild year-round. Even if you spent a full month just in Yunnan, you still would not run out of things to see: Dali, Lijiang, Xishuangbanna, snow-capped mountains, ancient towns and historic trade routes. You could also pop over to neighboring Guilin, where Yangshuo is an absolute must-visit spot.

In short, if you want cool, comfortable weather, put your money on Yunnan — it definitely will not disappoint.
