Why is nobody talking about China (specifically Chengdu) for affordable full-body checkups?

I'm in my 50s and planning ahead for retirement in the U.S. I keep seeing posts about Mexico and Thailand, but I've been digging into Chengdu, China.

From what I found:

- Top-tier 3A hospitals do full-body MRI, blood panels and specialist consults for around $300–$500 cash price, with no insurance. - Rent for a nice one-bedroom apartment is under $400 per month. - They have international clinics with English translators.

Am I missing something? Why is this not on the radar for U.S. retirees? Is it the visa or the language barrier?

P.S. If you have been to Chengdu or any Chinese city for medical care, please DM me even if you do not want to comment. I'm just gathering real stories to help me decide. Thanks!

You're right, yet you're also wrong.

The mistake is that it's not just Chengdu. In fact, nearly all large- and medium-sized cities across China deliver extremely cost-effective healthcare services. Whether you just want a routine health check-up, treatment for minor illnesses, or even major surgeries — even if you have no Chinese medical insurance. That's right, paying entirely out of pocket, you can receive better medical care than in the US or Europe, with costs at least 60% lower. When it comes to seeking medical treatment, China is nothing short of a paradise.
